If you like making things for your garden, you'll love concrete.

Durable and simple to work with, concrete is also surprisingly beautiful. Concrete Garden Projects offers up an inspiring array of creative projects that can be made for next to nothing. Follow the easy, step-by-step instructions to make containers of all sizes, stepping stones, and even benches and barbecues! Household items such as ice trays and muffin pans can be creatively repurposed as molds. For elegant, unique garden décor, don't spend a fortune, just mix and pour.

How to: House numbers

Our own Emma shows you how easy concrete is to work with in this how-to video. You could win the actual foam molds used in this video (plus a Home Depot gift certificate and a copy of the book). See above.

The contest

We want you to have as much fun using this book as we did making it, so we're giving away everything you need for your own concrete project:

  • A $25 gift certificate to Home Depot (sure, that'll buy an awful lot of concrete mix, but maybe you should pick up some brushes, too)
  • A set of foam number molds (in fact, the very set made famous in our video below)
  • A copy of Concrete Garden Projects

Sorry, the contest is over! However, you can sign up for our emails to be alerted to future contests.

How to: Tealight holders

Whether flickering on your patio table on a quiet summer evening or welcoming visitors in winter on your front steps, candles are always beautiful.

Small candle and tealight holders are easy to make and are a good project for beginners not used to working with concrete. Try using a variety of molds, such as silicone muffin cases or small plastic containers, like empty sour cream tubs.

Step-by-step instructions for making these concrete tealight holders are on our blog.

The contest closed October 21, 2011, and winners were randomly selected. No purchase was necessary to enter. The contest was only open to entries from the US and Canada.
