About the authors

John Shewey

Lifelong birding enthusiast John Shewey is a veteran freelance writer, author, editor, and professional outdoor photographer with credits in dozens of magazines, ranging from Birdwatching to Portland Monthly. John has photographed birds from the mountains of Alaska to the jungles of Central America to the islands of the Caribbean. His website, birdingoregon.com, chronicles many of his travels in rich photographic detail, including bird-photography expeditions to the most remote corners of his home state. It also provides a repository for all things related to birdwatching in Oregon. In 2012, John found and photographed only the third Ruby-throated Hummingbird ever confirmed for the state of Oregon.

Noted expert Tim Blount has birded extensively in the United States and Europe. Living in Oregon’s Harney County, the most renowned birdwatching destination in the Northwest, Tim is a director with the Oregon Birding Association and executive director of the Friends of Malheur National Wildlife Refuge. Tim’s website, harneybirder.com—the most-visited birding website in the Northwest—details bird sightings in southeast Oregon and serves as a wellspring of information for birders visiting the region. Rich in photography, it is an important resource for birders researching species found in the Northwest.
