Are you interested in a career in book publishing? Timber Press is currently accepting applications for internships.

Timber Press, a horticultural book publisher located in beautiful downtown Portland, Oregon, offers a hands-on, educational internship program. The program runs year-round, and requires a 20 hours/week commitment over a four-month period. Internships reside in the marketing department, with opportunities to work on various aspects of publicity and marketing within the publishing field. Internships are unpaid, but many schools accept credit for completing the program.

Typical intern duties may include the following:

  • Interviewing authors
  • Contacting media
  • Conducting research
  • Writing press releases
  • Developing Web site content
  • Managing reviews
  • Assembling press kits
  • Assisting with mailings
  • Creating publicity materials

An ongoing series of mini-classes — covering many aspects of book publishing such as acquisitions, book production, design, editing, sales, publicity, Internet research, and Web development — enrich the overall hands-on experience.

Our internships are uniquely tailored to suit the needs and schedules of participants in the program. Our company offers a flexible, casual, and laid back working atmosphere. Working with friendly, bright, and enthusiastic staff, our interns have found their time at Timber Press not only to be extremely fulfilling and rewarding, but also lots of fun!

Many have kept in touch and continually remind us of the benefits of their internship.
